Team members can specialize in one of 6 areas includign parish ministry, retreat and youth ministry, young adult ministry, outdoor ministry and more.

Fall Retreat
The Young Adult Service Team just returned from their annual fall retreat. The team enjoyed the time of reflection, prayer and community building. For two days they reflected on Sabbath and community life, while setting their goals for the year and getting to know each other in a different setting.

Changes for 2010-2011 Year
The office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry is in the process of adding additional service opportunities for young adults. We are now offering parish placements as part of the Young Adult Service Team.
As part of this, teams will be sent to rural or under-resourced parishes and parish clusters to work in youth ministry through.
This is just one of six ministry areas a person can work in through the Young Adult Service Team.
Check back in a few weeks for updated ministry descriptions and the 2010-2011 application.

Join us in welcoming the new Young Adult Service Team
The Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry is pleased to welcome four new members of the Young Adult Service Team beginning August 1st.
Heather will be working part time in Retreat Ministry and part time in Campus Ministry. She is joining us after finishing a year as a peer minister at the University of Washington.
John Michael is joining us from California. He will be working principle in Retreat Ministry and assisting part time in Campus Ministry
Sarah G. will also be serving primarily in Retreat Ministry. She joins us from Pennsylvania where she recently graduated from University of Pittsburg.
Sarah N. will become our fist ever Service Team member assigned to Outdoor Ministries. She has spent the first part of the summer assisting at Camp Don Bosco after working in a local Environmental Education Program for the past year.

Summer Training Program now open to all youth ministers
Join the Young Adult Service Team in a summer training and orientation program for leaders within the Youth and Young Adult Ministry community. This program is open to anyone serving as a Lay Ecclesial Minister within an Archdiocesan parish, school or faith community. A special invitation is extended to those new to ministry or to the Archdiocese. Paid and volunteer leadership are welcome to join us for these eight days of ministry training.
Led by OYYAM staff, youth ministers and other ministry professionals working in the Archdiocese, this program helps youth and young adult ministry leaders:
· Gain a greater understanding of ministry within the local church;
· Develop effective skills for ministry to youth and young adults;
· Acquire a theological and pastoral framework for Catholic ministry to youth and young adults.

Service Team ends 2008-2009 Service Year
It is now into July so the Young Adult Service Team has officially left and we are starting to set up and get ready for the 2009-2010 Service Team. We thank Scott for his work with CYO athletics and welcome him back in August as he completes his Master’s Degree at Seattle University. Bridget concluded her second year of service in Retreat Ministry with Ascend on July 3rd and began her new role as the Associate Director of Retreat Ministry and CYO Camp Guest Services this morning.
We are happy to have both team members with us in the Fall as well as our new team of even more people working in even more areas.

Are you a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who is a young adult between the ages of 21-29 looking for a year-long service internship in Retreat Ministry? The Archdiocese of Seattle is currently accepting applications for this ministry area of our Young Adult Service Team!
Have you had a great retreat experiences as a youth or young adult? Are you creative about sharing spirituality with youth and young adults? As a member of the Impact Retreat Team, you will have the opportunity to promote, plan and lead retreats for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle. Youth and Young Adult retreat offerings may include Confirmation, Marriage Preparation, Preparing for High School, Young Adult Lenten Retreat, Relationship Retreat, Search and many more!
Team members live in community and work in a variety of internships within the Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Interns will be provided opportunities to work in all aspects of ministry for youth and young adults, in this case, specifically in Retreat Ministry. Team members receive lodging, food, monthly stipend, and health insurance stipend in addition to training and formation. This opportunity provides hands-on ministry experience in a supportive environment.

New Service Team Members
We are happy to announce that two of the spots on the Young Adult Service Team are now filled and for the first time one of the team members will be working in Environmental Education and Outdoor Ministry.

Summer Formation Program
The OYYAM Staff is busy preparing the summer formation for next year's service team. We already have several great presenters lined up to help form the team and prepare them for a year of ministry in the Archdiocese.
The team is set to move in August and will spend 6 weeks developing professionally, personally and as a community. We are really excited for this new team to come and get started in their ministries.
The new service team will officially be commissioned at the Fall Gathering at the Palisades on September 11.

Interviews are underway
Interviews for the Young Adult Service Team are currently underway. With several complete we are excited for the team that is already taking shape. Please pray for the newest Service Team Members, and look for an updated introduction as each of them is put in place.

Reviewing Applications
We are starting to get really excited for next year. Applications are still arriving and are being reviewed to build the best team possible. Plans are underway for the first weeks of the new teams arrival.

Scott Bailey, Young Adult Service Team - Athletics
Scott has been working for the Catholic Youth Organization since the summer of 2005. He started working at summer camp, as a cabin leader at Camp Don Bosco, and worked there for three summers as a cabin leader and lodge leader. In the winter of 2008 he did a 10 week internship with CYO Athletics to finish graduation requirements from Washington State University, and completed his Sport Management degree in June 2008. Following his internship in Athletics, during the spring of 2008 he worked as a Teacher Naturalist for Environmental Education, the Archdiocesan outdoor education program at Camp Hamilton. In August of 2008 he started his current position as a member of the Archdiocesan Young Adult Service Team, and has been assigned to work primarily in the Athletics office. He is currently enrolled in the Masters of Sport Administration and Leadership (MSAL) program at Seattle University, and plans to complete that degree by the winter of 2011.

Love the outdoors? Enjoy teaching youth about the beauty of God’s creation? Environmental stewardship and education are at the core of this service internship. Duties performed and skills learned include outreach to Catholic schools and parishes through presentations, as well as leading groups in our residential environmental education program. Learn to conduct research and enhance our curriculum with sustainability, environmental concern, and spirituality in a Catholic context.
Hispanic Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Enjoy working with diverse populations? Want to further the spirit of Communion and celebrate the rich diversity of our local Church? Work with La Red Hispanic Network of young adult leaders in providing networking opportunities and ongoing formation for leaders serving in parishes. Develop and implement retreats serving our Hispanic youth and young adult populations. Assist in the planning and coordination of leadership development opportunities utilizing resources on local, regional and national levels, as well as involvement in issues of social justice.
Athletics
Do you like seeing young people grow in ability, confidence and social skills? Are you interested in sports and spirituality? Do you believe in the values of sports that can positively shape the lives of young people? CYO Athletics serves upwards of 9000 non-duplicated athletes throughout the school year in six sports. Service team members working with CYO Athletics would have the opportunity to assist in the administration of the program as well as hands on experience with coaches and athletes.

Passionate about Camping? Want to learn more about what it takes to plan and manage a safe and educational Catholic summer camping experience for youth of all ages? This service internship focuses on all aspects of summer camp management and administration. Learn about everything that happens in the off-season to make a summer camp work. Assist in program design and planning, marketing, and staff recruitment, all while living in community at CYO Camp Don Bosco or Camp Hamilton.
Event Planning
Are you organized, detail oriented, and creative? Would you live to explore the field of event planning? Put your talents to work helping us vision, plan and execute Archdiocesan youth and young adults events. Participate on event planning committees with a diverse group of individuals from all over the Archdiocese. Assist with roles such as designing publicity brochures, developing new workshops, searching locally, regionally and nationally for inspirational speakers and musicians, stage management, AV and other on-site roles during events.

Are you passionate about justice and the dignity of human life? Do you think Catholic Social Teaching is the Church’s best kept secret? Would you like to work to change that by educating youth and young adults through experiential learning about this important body of teaching? This volunteer internship focuses on archdiocesan service and mission programs for youth and young adults. Expand your knowledge of CST while working to plan mission week experiences locally and abroad. Help coordinate all aspects of mission week planning including staff recruitment, promotional/registration material development, scheduling, partnering with local social services agencies, and developing training and preparation materials for participants. Planning culminates in the opportunity to staff one or more mission week sites as a site director.
Campus Ministry
Did you have an awesome campus ministry experience? Would you like to be a part of ensuring that all Catholic students have the opportunity to grow in faith in a supportive Catholic community? Outreach is at the heart of this service internship. Team members will focus their efforts on outreach to college campuses without formal Catholic campus ministry, to develop solid Catholic student clubs. Team members will work with student leaders to plan programming, special masses on campus, and connect them to a network of their peers.

Do you believe that technology can be used to further the kingdom? We’ve all heard the negative hype. This is your chance to help us show how technology can be used for good. Put your tech skills to work for the Church in Western Washington.
